Bedding comes in all sizes from crib bedding and toddler beds to the giant California King and each type of bed requires specific bedding. Crib bedding typically consists of a fitted bottom sheet, a bed skirt and one or more crib bumpers while toddler beds require conventional bedding – a fitted bottom sheet, flat top sheet, a bed skirt, pillowcase and comforter or quilt. Toddler bedding fits a standard toddler bed or a crib mattress but it will not fit a twin bed.
Twin bedding is available in the conventional twin size or twin extra long, also referred to as twin XL. The two types of sheets are not interchangeable – a twin fitted or flat sheet will not fit a twin XL bed, while a twin quilt or comforter does not need to be extra long to cover the bed. In fact comforters and quilts are not sold in the XL format so there is no need to seek them out.
Full and queen bedding are also not interchangeable. Double or full-size bed sheets are too small for a queen bed and a full comforter or quilt will not cover a queen bed completely. Regardless of the bedding size, full, queen, king or California king, most bed ensembles consist of the same components – a bed skirt, a quilt or comforter and two pillow shams; typically the price for the bed ensemble increases as the bedding size increases. Bedding ensembles make decorating and finishing a bedroom quick and easy as the components have all been designed to coordinate perfectly.
