Think safety. Think affordable NC auto insurance

September 29, 2011 By: wawan Category: Uncategorized

When buying a new car, it’s tempting to disregard its safety features. It’s easy to become enamored by the look of a car, the modern luxury accessories, and its engine capacity. Safety isn’t a sexy word, but without doubt should be the number one priority when you’re in the market for a new car. Not only can a safe car protect your life and your livelihood, it could save you plenty of money on your Burlington insurance rates.

There are several trustworthy websites that can inform you about the safety of all types of vehicles. The Institute for Highway Safety website lists cars and awards “Top Safety Pick” to the safest cars, while the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) issues five-star ratings to the safest cars.

The NHTSA rates cars based on how they react in different crash situations, including side, front, rate and rollovers. A five-star rating is the highest safety rating, and one-star the lowest.

If you buy a car with a five-star rating, you’re likely to attract a better value insurance rate. Crash ratings, air bags and favorable statistics can all help you get better value auto insurance.

If you’ve started looking into the safety features of your next new car, well done, you’re taking the right steps towards protecting yourself – and saving money on your insurance!

Earthquake insurance in California: Is it necessary?

September 29, 2011 By: wawan Category: Uncategorized

When you’ve just bought a house or apartment it can be tempting to start immediately on home improvement projects; you’re keen to express your creativity and personality as well as adding to the comfort of your living space.
Buying your home has probably stretched your budget to the maximum and you may be short of cash to fund these ambitious home improvement plans. This is not necessarily a bad thing: bear in mind that architects advise against making any major changes until you’ve live in your home for enough time to get to know how the different seasons affect the light and other comfort factors in your home.

Meanwhile, focus on a few minor jobs that can make a real difference to the comfort and security of your new home. Some home improvements such as installing intruder alarms or upgrading the level of fire protection may attract significant discounts – as much as 20% – on some earthquake insurance in California because insurers actively encourage high levels of safety and security.

After twelve months or so in your home you’ll know how each room is affected by sun and shadow in each season of the year, and you’ll have a good idea how the layout of the home works for your family’s lifestyle. With this knowledge and experience you’re in a much better position to make decisions on home improvements.

A word of caution: while you want your home to be a comfortable haven for your family, when you’re planning home improvements it’s prudent to consider your home’s market appeal. Beware of overcapitalizing by investing more in a home improvement program than you are likely to recover when the home is sold. If you carry out any major work that adds to the value of your home, don’t forget to contact your agent or insurer and adjust coverage in your additional home insurance policies.
